Spring Style Trend Review
With lockdown easing, Spring arriving and the nights getting lighter I feel a renewed sense of optimism around us. I love Spring more than any other season of the year, it's full of promise with warmer days, trees blossoming and the smell of summer just around the corner. It's the time to think about wearing summer dresses and lighter knits as we transistion into the newness of Spring!
A few weeks ago I held my annual Spring Style Event and this year it was online with an audience of amazing women nationwide. The evening focussed on trands from the catwalk and how they translate to the fashion and styles we wear. I talked about the new colour trends, as well as the key wearable trends for the season, ideas on how to build them into your wardrobe with piees you already own and ideas of where to shop sustainably for them too.
Here are my top 5 favourite trends of the new season:
Pink in its palest and brightest hue can be found everywhere this season! From baby pastel pink, to warm bubblegum pink right through to bright fushia pink, you cannot miss it! Feeling bold where pink head to toe in a bright two piece suit! Finish off with this seasons favourite shoe - the flat loafer. You may prefer a pastel pink maxi dress worn with sandal though. Or if all pink is just too much then add a splash with a motif T shirt, a skirt of maybe a floral summer scarf or pink handbag!
The trend for oversized blazers stays strong this year (yay, to that), they are such a classic key piece to every wardrobe. These look fab when worn over denim jeans, shorts, a dress or a t shirt. The ultimate piece for dressing up or down. However, this season look out for rise of the tailored blazer as well as the resurgence of the double breasted blazer with gold buttons! Think Chanel vibes here! You cannot beat a whote or cream blaxer for the summer but this year I think a traditional navy blazer is back on my wish list!

Last year it was all about the puff sleeve! This trend also stays strong but this year the sleeve takes on even more of the drama on its own with the balloon sleeve showing up as a firm favourite on the catwalk! In fact dresses also see more exaggeration this year too with fuller skirts, more layers, more embellishment - very dramatic and romantic in their styling!. Think Birdgerton Style from Netflix but modern! The drama in the dresses is real!

The skinny jean has fallen down in the popularity stakes now to make way for the relaxed jean! Did we ever think we'd see the day where the skinny fell from favour for the Mom jean! Well, don't worry because the skinny isnt going anywhere and will remain a firm favourite for many especially when teamed with an oversize shirt this season too ! But this season it is ALL about the relaxed mom jean, the loose fitting, the unstructured, the balloon jean! If going too oversized just feels like a step too far start with moving away from a skinn=y into a straight jean instead. Denim is so good with trainers, sneakers, high tops, heels and even tucked into boots! It looks fabulous when styled with the pastel colours of the season in a knit too!

Hello to the 70's and 80's - I remember the 70s as a small child and the 80s as a teenager!!! The saying goes if you remember it the first time don't touch it the second time - well I say hell no to that ..... just put a modern twist on your styling to bring it up to date! This season the pattern, the florals, the print clash, the clashing colours it's all about the drama and bringing the good times of the 70s and 80s back again. Bright rainbow colours can be mixed with soft pastels and let's not forget monochrome - black and white together - a hot trend for SS21 but when is Black and White ever out of fashion anyway!
This season look out for classics with a twist - you will find tranch coats with different coloured panels, you'll find the classic chic look coming to the forefront with all the Chanel vibes. You'll see neutrals styled sophistically. Double breasted blazers, fitted blazers the whole look is starting to look more structured and well classy. From slingback shoes to pussy bow blouses and wide leg jeans the classic look is chic and popular. And let's not forget the mules - such a favourite this year!
