One size does not fit all!!

It’s a minefield out there, isn’t it ?

Do you find yourself getting frustrated at the sizing in different clothes shops ! I always felt how could I possibly be a small in one item in Zara but need an Extra Large when I try something else ! It can be a confidence thief for sure!!

And then it’s no surprise that women start avoiding the shops altogether or they keep buying the same style piece from the same shop over and over again and they feel stuck and fed up.

Here’s the thing you need to keep in mind (obvious as it may seem) - the ready to wear clothes you buy off the peg are not made individually for you! They are made to fit the masses.

In fact most of these manufacturers sizing charts are dated and are are based on up to three different body measurements only, plus they don’t even consider the specific variations in body types and proportion and how much our bodies have evolved over the years too!

Fact: I’ve never had one client who has exactly the same body shape as the other!

Fact: 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 ..

So take the pressure off yourself and don’t worry about the label sizes in clothes from shop to shop - choose the pieces that fit and flatter your body.

It can of course work, in what feels like your favour too, as some sizing across brands is purposefully more generous - it’s called Vanity Sizing (and it’s a very shrewd move by the brands). You literally shop yourself thinner as magically you appear two sizes smaller in one shops clothes than another! Of course this has a massive psychological boost to you despite the increase in accepting and promoting body positivity which we are now embracing more than ever.

However in reversal it can have a massive downward effect on your self esteem and mindset too! Finding the need to jump up two sizes can leave us feeling demotivated and crushed! Which is not what I want for any woman!

So here‘s what you need to remember ladies :

  • Sizes are just numbers, they don’t define you!

  • You are unique - wonderfully unique and so is your body! Learn to love your own body and all that it does for you - we all change and evolve through life and we all have wobbly bits (honest) that we’re way more conscious of ourselves than anyone else ever is - accept and embrace yourself!

  • Learn to Understand the scale and proportion of your body (it’s a fame change) - not just the size you take. If you need help, reach out to a stylist ! Then you’ll know what styles and shapes you are looking to fit and flatter your own body.

  • If it doesn’t fit when you try it on - a reminder again - it wasn't made for you personally- size up or down - it’s not you it’s the clothes!

  • Find a good local seamstress - if a piece you love just needs a small alteration to make it fit you perfectly it’s worth it - don’t dismiss it !

We probably won’t see any consistency in sizing labels across brands any time soon especially as there is no over arching governing body (excuse the pun).

So the only numbers you should worry about are the ones on the price tag because it’s true ‘size’ really doesn’t matter!
